About the Event

In recognition of the 2019 National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD) SisterLove, Inc. is hosting several events to engage people living with and affected by HIV, community members, stakeholders, state legislators in conversation and action surrounding the unique challenges facing women and girls affected by HIV.

We are organizing around the theme of Renewing Georgia's Policy Agenda. While advances have been made in HIV treatment and prevention, many of Georgia's policies have remained behind, particularly in meeting the needs of women and girls. Globally, women account for more than half of the people living with HIV and young women ages 10-24 are twice as likely to acquire HIV as their male counterparts. Here in Georgia, Black women are disproportionately affected by HIV and face intersecting levels of oppression and health burdens.

In advance of NWGHAAD we are holding an advocacy event at the Capitol on March 6th at noon where we will speak to the unique challenges facing women and girls affected by HIV/AIDS including vertical transmission, HIV criminalization, reproductive autonomy, Title X, biomedical inequity, and more.

We are also planning a legislative briefing and other community events. Planning is underway and we'll share the details as soon as possible.
